Lakeland Regional Health (Lakeland, Fla.) plans to build a new freestanding emergency department (ED) in Lakeland, according to the website lkldnow.com.

Situated on 2.2 acres, the project is a part of Lakeland Regional Health’s 5-year plan to expand emergency care to the community and tackle physician shortages.

The hospital system recently opened the $46 million Harrell Family Center for Behavioral Health in Lakeland.
